OK, that isn't actually true, it just sounds way more responsible. What really happened was that I learned that Melanie had never been to an opera, and decided to correct that. Anyhow, we got tickets and were excited the entire semester to go. When the big day came we got to make a great date of it. Melanie wore her beautiful black dress with pearls, and I got to don my french cuffed shirt. We drove to Salt Lake and ate at a little Croatian restaurant. The food was delicious as you can see by my big ridiculous smile.
Melanie and I enjoy informal restaurants like this one because it's a great opportunity to do some people watching. Unfortunately we were way over dressed for the occasion. From there we walked over to the opera house. Opera etiquette, I believe, has changed. Most of the guys had ear rings and aside from the director and the musicians I only saw one person in a tux. I was worried I would be under dressed, but there were even some people in a T-shirt and jeans! *Sigh* what is becoming of the opera these days. ;)
Anyhow, we got seats in the way back on the second tier, which actually turned out to be some of the best seats in the house because you can see the stage AND the subtitles without getting a sore neck.
So the Opera we saw was Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro". It was actually a pretty good opera. It was way more lively than the majority of operas I've seen. Instead of JUST standing around and singing, the acting was quite good and the plot engaging if not somewhat disturbing. Melanie and I laughed all the way through however and enjoyed. it

Looks like so much fun! I agree-it helps to have something to look forward to when life is busy. Way to keep up the culture standards in the family, Mitch. I'm afraid John and I haven't been to anything as nice for quite awhile. :)
And Leon vows he'll never set foot in an Opera so count us out for representing the family! Good job. Maybe I'll have to bum along with you one of these days. You both looked very nice and I CANNOT believe you dared to eat cevapi with your hands in a nice shirt. Very brave. Sounds like you could have gone shirtless and still fit the dress code, though. I drop Ivar on myself every time! :)
